During a session at the Punjab Assembly in Lahore, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the upcoming launch of an electric bike distribution initiative under the Chief Minister Youth Initiative. Scheduled to commence on July 10, this project aims to provide electric bikes to students across Punjab.
Highlighting her government’s achievements in the first 100 days, Nawaz emphasized significant milestones such as the introduction of a historic tax-free budget. She also underscored the revival of initiatives like the laptop scheme and efforts to enroll out-of-school children.
Addressing healthcare, the Chief Minister outlined plans to enhance free healthcare services, ensuring access to medicines and treatments in public hospitals. Additionally, she detailed support measures for farmers, including interest-free loans and subsidies on agricultural machinery.
The electric bike initiative, initially announced on April 12, aims to distribute 20,000 bikes to students through affordable monthly installment plans. Male students will pay Rs 11,676 per month, while female students will benefit from a discounted rate of Rs 7,325 per month.
To ensure equitable distribution, urban areas will observe a 50/50 quota between male and female students, while rural areas will allocate 70 percent of bikes to male students and 30 percent to female students.
This initiative forms part of a broader strategy to empower youth and enhance educational access. By facilitating easier commutes to educational institutions, the government anticipates increased attendance and participation in academic activities among students across Punjab.
