Prime Minister’s Visit to China -Opening New Business Horizons for Pakistani Businesses

Prime Minister Muhmmad Shahbaz Sharif held a pivotal meeting in Shenzhen with Mr. Zhu Zhaojiang, the esteemed founder and chairman of Transsion Holdings, a prominent Chinese conglomerate. The focus of the discussion revolved around exploring promising investment opportunities within Pakistan’s burgeoning sectors, with Transsion Holdings showing keen interest in expanding its footprint in the country.

Key areas of interest highlighted during the meeting included investment prospects in Transsion Holdings’ mobile manufacturing unit in Pakistan, along with potential ventures in electric bikes, modern agriculture, and fintech. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating foreign investors and extending a warm invitation to Transsion Holdings to localize production in Pakistan and leverage the nation’s export potential.

Mr. Zhu Zhaojiang provided insightful updates on Transsion Holdings’ ongoing operations in Pakistan, emphasizing the company’s existing unit dedicated to mobile phone production, which currently employs over 5,000 Pakistani individuals. The chairman expressed the company’s eagerness to further amplify its investment in mobile phone manufacturing within Pakistan, foreseeing an uptick in exports consequent to expanded production capabilities.

The meeting boasted the presence of notable federal ministers and dignitaries, including Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Orangzeb, Abdul Aleem Khan, Jam Kamal, Attaullah Tarar, and Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shazia Fatima Khawaja. Additionally, key figures from Pakistan’s mobile phone industry, such as Mr. Zeeshan Mianoor, CEO of Inovi Telecom, Mr. Muzzafar Paracha, CEO of Airlink Communications, and Amir Allahwala, CEO of Tecno Pak Electronics, were also in attendance.

The collective presence of esteemed stakeholders underscored the momentum towards fostering the growth of Pakistan’s mobile phone industry, with a focus on bolstering local manufacturing and export initiatives. The collaboration between Pakistan and China holds promising prospects for steering the mobile phone sector towards unprecedented growth and prosperity.
