During Eid ul Adha in Pakistan, more than 680,000 animals were sacrificed, with a total estimated value exceeding Rs500 billion.
The sacrificial animals consisted of 290,000 cows, 330,000 goats, 385,000 sheep, 98,000 camels, and 165,000 water buffalo.
The value of the animal hides alone is estimated to be around Rs85 billion. However, concerns have arisen regarding potential losses of up to 40% of these hides due to extreme heat and inadequate handling.
Traditionally, the leather industry relies on Eid ul Adha for approximately 20% of its annual hide supply. This year, the industry may face a shortfall of more than 20% in hide availability compared to previous years.
