Pakistani Universities Join International Alliance for Agricultural Technology Upgrade

Four Pakistani universities—University of Haripur, Quaid-i-Azam University, Sindh Agriculture University, and Ayub Agricultural Research Institute—have made a significant stride in agricultural technology by joining the Silk Road Agricultural Education and Research Innovation Alliance. This collaboration aims to foster international cooperation in developing new food crops, vegetable varieties, and medicinal plants.

Recently, the alliance supplied Pakistani universities with advanced wheat and vegetable varieties like cabbage, carrot, and tomatoes, which are now under intensive research at their demonstration farms. Notably, a new wheat variety suitable for wider cultivation in Pakistan has been identified, promising a 27% increase in wheat production. This breakthrough is expected to bolster agricultural productivity in the region.

Moreover, the introduction of cutting-edge innovations such as nanobiochar, novel nutrient solutions, and bio-organic fertilizers is set to revolutionize crop quality and yield. These advancements underscore the alliance’s commitment to enhancing agricultural sustainability and resilience through technological innovation and collaborative research efforts.
