Pakistan has demonstrated its prowess in the field of biology once again, securing two bronze medals at the prestigious International Biology Olympiad 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan. This achievement highlights the exceptional performance of Zoha Asif from Karachi and Soban Safdar from Mirpur Mathelo, who brought home these accolades.
The success of the Pakistani team can be attributed to the rigorous training provided by the STEM Careers program. Under the mentorship of Dr. Asma Imran and Dr. Amir Ali from the National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), the students underwent intensive preparation through training camps organized by the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS).
Pakistan’s participation in the International Biology Olympiad dates back to 2001, during which the nation has amassed a total of 134 medals. This consistent involvement underscores Pakistan’s dedication to advancing biology education and promoting STEM disciplines among its youth.
The achievements of Zoha Asif and Soban Safdar not only celebrate their individual excellence but also signify Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to nurturing talent in the field of biology on the global stage.
