Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Begins Oil & Gas Production from Punjab

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has initiated oil and gas production from the Pothohar region in northern Punjab, marking a pivotal achievement in bolstering Pakistan’s energy independence. The project, centered around the Adhi South-8 well drilled to a depth of 3,460 meters, anticipates daily outputs of 550 barrels of oil and 0.8 million standard cubic feet of gas (mmscfd).

PPL, in partnership with Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) holding 50% of shares, and Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) with an 11% stake, has orchestrated this endeavor aimed at curbing Pakistan’s reliance on energy imports. This strategic move not only promises substantial savings in foreign exchange but also fortifies the nation’s energy security by reducing external energy procurements.

By boosting local production capacity, Pakistan endeavors to mitigate its energy deficit, fostering self-sufficiency in oil and gas resources. This achievement underscores the synergistic collaboration among PPL, OGDCL, and POL, reflecting concerted efforts to elevate the country’s energy sector.

The successful commencement of operations in the Pothohar region signals a significant stride towards achieving national energy goals, reinforcing Pakistan’s position towards sustainable energy autonomy.
