KP CM Restores Power Supply After Entering DI Khan Grid Station, Issues Own Loadshedding Schedule

Ali Amin Gandapur, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, took decisive action this week to alleviate the severe power shortages in Dera Ismail Khan. Personally entering a grid station, he implemented a new schedule aimed at restricting power outages to a maximum of 12 hours per day across all areas of the province. This move comes in response to widespread complaints about excessively long power cuts, which in some places had extended up to 22 hours daily.

Previously, the province had been grappling with electricity shortages exacerbated by issues such as high theft and low bill payments, leading to strategic power cuts based on revenue considerations. Areas experiencing significant losses were subjected to cuts lasting up to 15-16 hours per day as part of efforts to mitigate economic strain.

Chief Minister Gandapur’s initiative marks a shift towards a more equitable distribution of electricity, addressing longstanding grievances over inconsistent and prolonged power outages. He mandated all lawmakers to oversee the enforcement of the new schedule at grid stations within their constituencies, underscoring a hands-on approach to governance.

In addition to tackling immediate operational challenges, Gandapur highlighted systemic issues, including substantial outstanding dues owed by the federal government to the province. Despite previous appeals for support and dialogue from the Energy Minister, no satisfactory response had been forthcoming, prompting Gandapur to assert provincial autonomy in managing the energy crisis.

Looking ahead, the Chief Minister emphasized the protection of public assets and pledged that no feeder would endure power cuts exceeding 12 hours. He instructed law enforcement agencies to maintain fairness and impartiality, cautioning against undue influence from external entities in their duties.

This proactive stance by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur signals a commitment to improving the quality and reliability of electricity supply in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. By implementing these measures, he aims to provide much-needed relief to residents burdened by prolonged power shortages while asserting provincial authority in addressing critical infrastructure challenges.
