Islamabad to Ban Purchase of Petrol-Powered Motorcycles

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has recently implemented a ban on the purchase of fuel-powered motorcycles in Islamabad, marking a significant move towards enhancing the city’s environmental sustainability. This decision was a result of a comprehensive review meeting held at the Capital Development Authority (CDA), where Minister Naqvi articulated his vision to elevate Islamabad into a world-class city. Central to this vision is the adoption of eco-friendly measures, aimed at reducing the city’s carbon footprint and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment for its residents.

During the meeting, Minister Naqvi underscored the importance of embracing electric vehicles (EVs) as a pivotal strategy. The plan includes the introduction of electric bikes and buses, viewed as crucial steps towards achieving sustainable urban mobility. By encouraging the adoption of EVs, the government anticipates a substantial reduction in air pollution levels, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.

The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the imperative for sustainable practices in urban development. By phasing out fuel-powered motorcycles and endorsing electric alternatives, Islamabad is positioning itself at the forefront of green urban planning. This strategic focus on environmental sustainability is expected to yield long-term benefits, not only improving air quality but also fostering a more livable and resilient city environment.

Minister Naqvi’s proactive approach signifies a commitment to shaping Islamabad’s future around principles of clean energy and sustainable living. This transformative policy sets a precedent for other cities grappling with urban environmental challenges, paving the way for a future where cities prioritize the well-being of both their inhabitants and the planet.
