Here’s How to Register for Punjab free solar scheme 2024

In a bold move to combat escalating electricity expenses, the Punjab government has launched the Roshan Gharana scheme. This groundbreaking initiative aims to equip 4.5 million homes across the province with solar energy systems, providing substantial financial relief to households burdened by high energy bills.

How Does the Roshan Gharana Scheme Work?

Under the Roshan Gharana program, households can obtain solar panels through affordable installment plans. The size of the solar system provided to each household is determined by their monthly electricity consumption. Eligible households consuming up to 50 units per month will receive a 500-watt solar system at no charge. Those using between 50 and 100 units will benefit from a 1-kilowatt system, while households consuming 200 to 300 units monthly will receive an 1100-watt system. Larger systems are available for higher consumption levels.

Eligibility and Registration

To qualify for the scheme, households must have an annual electricity consumption of up to 500 units and must be tax filers. Applicants receiving government assistance or involved in electricity theft are not eligible. Registration is straightforward: interested residents need only send their ID card number and electricity bill reference number to 8800. Eligible households will be selected through a draw and offered solar systems through the Bank of Punjab or the National Bank.

Flexible Payment Options

The payment structure is designed to be flexible and manageable. Participants are required to pay 25% of the solar system’s cost upfront, with no interest charged. The remaining amount can be paid in interest-free installments over five years, added to their regular electricity bills. For households consuming more than 500 units, the government will cover 75% of the interest costs.

Advancing Sustainable Energy

Installation of the solar systems is scheduled to commence between September and October, marking a significant stride toward promoting cleaner and sustainable energy solutions. By reducing dependence on conventional power sources, the Roshan Gharana scheme aims to alleviate pressure on the electricity grid and deliver long-term financial savings to participating households.

Broader Impacts

Beyond individual benefits, the scheme is expected to stimulate economic growth and bolster environmental conservation efforts across Punjab. The Roshan Gharana initiative embodies a forward-looking approach to energy management, promising a brighter and more sustainable future for all residents of the province.

This revised version presents the key details of the Roshan Gharana scheme in a structured and informative manner, highlighting its objectives, eligibility criteria, registration process, payment options, and anticipated benefits for Punjab’s residents and environment alike.
