Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah of Sindh has unveiled an ambitious plan aimed at improving electricity access across the province. The initiative focuses on harnessing solar power to benefit both off-grid communities and low-consumption households currently connected to the main electricity grid.
One of the key aspects of the plan involves providing solar-powered electricity to off-grid households. This initiative targets approximately 2.6 million households in Sindh that currently lack access to the main electricity grid. Among them, around 500,000 households are eligible to receive solar energy through the establishment of solar parks and home solar systems.
Additionally, for on-grid users who consume between 50 and 100 units of electricity per month, the government plans to offer electricity free of charge. This measure is designed to alleviate energy costs for low-consumption households, thereby enhancing affordability and accessibility to electricity.
Energy Minister Nasir Shah emphasized the significant energy demand from approximately 80,000 households consuming 50 megawatts monthly. This underscores the pressing need for sustainable energy solutions like solar power to meet the province’s energy needs effectively.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has instructed the energy minister to develop comprehensive proposals for the implementation of solar parks and home solar systems. These initiatives are part of the government’s broader strategy to expand energy access and promote environmentally friendly energy alternatives throughout Sindh.
By prioritizing solar energy, the government aims to establish a dependable and eco-friendly source of electricity, particularly for underserved communities. The development of solar infrastructure is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving this objective, ensuring that more households can benefit from clean, renewable energy solutions.
