First Ever Jail Convocation Held in Pakistan as 248 Prisoners Graduated From Al-Khidmat IT Programs

Karachi Central Jail recently hosted a groundbreaking event: Pakistan’s inaugural convocation ceremony for 248 inmates who completed vocational courses. The courses covered diverse fields such as IT, graphic design, Chinese, and English. This momentous occasion signifies a pivotal step forward in Pakistan’s efforts towards prisoner rehabilitation.

During the ceremony, outstanding achievers were honored with Rs25,000 cash prizes and gifts, acknowledging their dedication and accomplishments. The Alkhidmat Foundation spearheaded this rehabilitation initiative, playing a crucial role in equipping inmates with valuable skills.

Distinguished guests, including Sindh Minister for Jail Ali Hassan Zardari, DIG Naveed Ali Baig, and Sindh IG Prisons Qazi Nazir Ahmed, graced the event. Their presence underscored the significance of education and skill development in the rehabilitation process.

DIG Naveed Ali Baig, in his address, unveiled plans for a new Skills Development and Vocational Training Institute within Karachi Central Jail. This institution aims to further enhance inmates’ skills, thereby improving their prospects for reintegration into society upon release.

Minister Zardari emphasized ongoing reforms within the prison system, highlighting initiatives like solar energy adoption and increased support for marginalized inmates. He pledged to expand similar rehabilitation programs across Sindh, aiming to catalyze positive transformations in prisons throughout the region.

Beyond celebrating inmate achievements, this convocation spotlighted ongoing efforts to reform the prison system. It underscores the commitment to equip inmates with the necessary tools and opportunities for a dignified and productive future.
