Unity Foods and The Green Ark (TGA) have joined forces in a strategic partnership, solidifying their commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), both entities have pledged to tackle the challenge of single-use plastics, a major contributor to ecological degradation, by implementing a circular economy initiative.
The collaboration entails TGA collecting and repurposing scrap materials from Unity Foods, transforming them into a variety of recycled products for reuse. This proactive step not only ensures the traceability of packaging waste but also underscores Unity Foods’ dedication to minimizing its environmental footprint.
With Unity Foods generating an average of over 13,000 kilograms of waste monthly, including various items like plastic bags, tin scraps, and cardboard cartons, this partnership aims to divert a significant amount of materials away from landfills and incinerators, thus mitigating environmental harm.
Ms. Nageen Rizvi, Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability at Unity Foods, emphasized the urgency of addressing global warming and its disproportionate impact on regions like Pakistan. She highlighted the company’s commitment to leading by example in environmental stewardship, particularly through ESG initiatives aimed at securing a healthier planet for future generations.
Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Habib Elahi, CEO of The Green Ark, emphasized their shared goal of reducing carbon emissions by repurposing waste into valuable resources, such as resin and construction materials. Through this collaboration, both Unity Foods and TGA are poised to make a tangible difference in promoting sustainability and advancing the circular economy.
