Lahore has recently witnessed an unprecedented weather event, with a record-setting 350 millimeters of rainfall deluging the city in just three hours. This massive downpour has shattered a 44-year-old rainfall record and resulted in severe flooding throughout the area.
Major thoroughfares, including Mall Road and Ferozepur Road, were submerged, leading to significant traffic disruptions and widespread power outages. Around 288 feeders managed by the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) were impacted, leaving numerous neighborhoods in the dark.
The torrential rains have also inundated residential areas and even Services Hospital, disrupting daily life and healthcare services. Lahore airport recorded 337 millimeters of rain, marking the highest total for the city, with other parts also experiencing heavy rainfall.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) has issued alerts for continued heavy rains across the country, expected to last until August 6. These conditions are attributed to robust monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, which are anticipated to bring further rainfall and worsen the current situation.
Residents are urged to exercise caution and stay updated on weather reports to safeguard themselves during this period of severe weather.
