The All Pakistan Traders Association has announced a nationwide protest against the escalating electricity bills, slated for July 1st. Their primary demand is the removal of extra taxes on electricity bills by June 30th, echoing widespread dissatisfaction with current government policies.
Ajmal Baloch, president of the association, criticized the government’s handling of electricity bills and payments to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), urging traders and the public to join their cause. He emphasized the urgent need to reevaluate contracts with IPPs and voiced concern over free electricity provided to WAPDA employees, which he views as unjustified at public expense.
The association also raised alarms about allegedly faster electricity meters installed by WAPDA, which they allege are responsible for inflated bills. Baloch warned that if their demands are unmet, the association will escalate their protest.
Beyond meter issues, traders are deeply troubled by overall surging electricity costs, which they argue jeopardize business viability. They assert that current policies are unfairly burdening both traders and citizens alike.
The upcoming protest on July 1st serves as a focal point for expressing discontent and urging governmental action. The association aims to leverage collective strength to prompt policy reconsideration, seeking relief from high bills and excessive taxes.
This protest underscores mounting frustration among traders and the public regarding rising expenses and perceived governmental mismanagement. The All Pakistan Traders Association remains steadfast in their determination to press for fair solutions until their grievances are adequately addressed.
